Press Release

Y2ARTS is proud to present UNSPOKEN, an upcoming group exhibition exhibition by 7 artists.

UNSPOKEN features diverse works by Liu Gang, Chi Yiqi, Cao Xihui, Zhang Lixin, Wu Dawei, Morgan Chua and Lu Yifei, from painting to sculptures.

The exhibition shows the code words in our bodies. The artists use human body shows the reflection of human being and contemporary society. Our desires in a material society affect us as well as our society. This influence is also intuitively reflected in our bodies, facial expressions, eyes, gestures and so on. Human body is a subject to processes such as birth, decay and death, but these processes arising from the body’s presence in nature are also “meaningful” events located in the world of cultural beliefs, symbols and practices.

Artists infuse their own reflections into their works. These works explored the depth of human being including artist themselves, realizing that the personal understanding of this materialistic society is reflected upon one’s body. The idea that the body is an antisocial place of desire is not a physiological fact, but a cultural construction with important political connotations. In this sense, the body is a cultural construction in opposition to social authority. For individuals and groups, the body is not only a part of nature, but also an intermediary of the self, and a part of social culture. Thus, we can use the body as a medium of interpretation and representation, embodying the structure of society.

On show till 12 Sept.
