In line with the Singapore Art Week 2022, Y2ARTS is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Zi Peng. Featuring his iconic Jade series, paintings on canvas and prints on paper that explore his surrealistic take on the precious stone; the exhibition furthers Zi Peng’s innovation in the use of pop-culture, URBart. Zi Peng’s considers culture as a living, evolving entity and he intermingles different cultures together into a cohesive fusion. His iconic Jade series, which is Zi Peng’s signature and recognizable palette, explores disrupting the viewers’ spatial orientation and perception – creating an illusionary jade object that is a fusion of Eastern and Western Culture.
Zi Peng has long been fascinated with pop-icons. He uses many pop-icons in his works, from Disney characters, Japanese Anime, etc.; yet he uses them to creates works that is satirical, controversial and often filled with social commentary. His latest works are presented with vibrant colours, using icons such as Snow-White but in a fusion of cross-cultures that “cheekily” challenges the “squeaky-clean” nature of the Disney princess. He is presenting a social commentary on materialism and commercialism that surrounds and often controls our daily lives through the using iconic pop-cultures in media, commercials and products.
Whether you choose to appreciate Zi Peng’s work as whimsical or satirical, he has created a unique and recognizable style for his artworks. His works will definitely lighten up the mood of its surrounding, and in the true spirit of Animation and cartoons – “Bring a Smile to your Face”.
Y2ARTS believe that this exhibition will definitely give you something to talk about during the Singapore Art Week.
