Ocean latest series, Melting Point, illustrate the abstract fluid form integrating hyper-realistic and miniature detailing. It encourages the observer to reflect upon the demographic and social evolution of Singapore. She draws inspiration from the constantly changing architectural landscapes, the fluid form represents the abstraction of collective society, and the detailing captures the rich heritage and activity.
Melting Pointevokes a sense of Singapore flowing through time, society in a constant state of flux, yet with identifiable streams, such as Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam. The fluid style artistically expresses the view of Singapore’s intangible, multi-cultural, political atmosphere, as a melting pot with a unique position in the global village.
Melting Pointis a very intimate and personal exhibition for the artist. It is an archive of Ocean’s life journey, capturing her colourful experiences of living in many different cultures, from her birth place in China, living in the UK with her husband, moving to Singapore to build a home, etc. Ocean allows her feelings and emotions of her life to permeate all of her works; and her fascinating paintings are also metaphors for the constant evolution of society.
