Press Release

In line with the Singapore Art Week 2023, Y2ARTS is proud to present Life and State in Nature, an upcoming solo exhibition by world-renowned watercolorist Tan Suz Chiang.

Over the years, Suz Chiang has participated in multiple international exhibitions. Twice, at both the “IMWA International Watercolor Masters Biennale”, and “ARTLIFE Art Festival” in Russia. At every opportunity where you glance upon his new works, you will find exciting developments and changes that strikes you on an emotional level.

This year, Suz Chiang presents a brand-new series featuring a fresh new approach. He used the twenty-four solar terms in the East as a blueprint to find inspiration for his paintings which includes (when directly translated): the beginning of spring, grain rain, summer solstice, autumnal equinox, mango seeds, frost fall… From the meanings derived from each solar term, he conceived of the many compositions expressing the themes of: changes observed in celestial bodies, natural phenomena, the shifting of the seasons, lyricism behind the recovery and growth of all things, and respect for the harmony between man and nature. All of which culminates into an eclectic and comprehensive series which embodies the endless and harmonious symbiotic relationship shared between man and nature!

Y2ARTS is back with a new mission: to bring accessible art to the masses. Life and State in Nature is a manifestation of our belief that art is for all, regardless of taste.

A new series of watercolour works depicting nature and time is shown in this solo exhibition, it is interesting to note the development of his very own expressionistic style. Over the years, Suz Chiang’s strokes have gained energy and momentum, revealing his strong inclination towards spontaneity. Yet, it is impossible to miss the thoughtful void in his works.

The intrinsic value of appreciating art up close cannot be underestimated; all will find, within Suz Chiang’s wide-ranging oeuvre, art that speaks to them.
