Press Release
Y2ARTS has a strong inclination towards identifying and developing creative art forms and artists. Having successfully promoted emerging artists to their worldwide collectors, we are pleased to announce an interesting collection of artworks by Outsider.
Outsideris a pseudonym belonging to a mainstream educator who is looking to challenge normative practices in the industry by introducing his own brand of contemporariness. Additionally, he is also an avid art collector and musician who considered himself to be standing on the outside looking in due to a lack of formal education and training; something he more than makes up for with a strong passion. As a self-taught artist, he is greatly inspired and influenced by artists such as Picasso, Sarah Morris and Yunizar.
Coming from a background in the Sciences and Finance, he found his initial inspiration and creative foothold from copying comic book illustrations. Now under the guidance of Ken Chang, gallery owner and scholar from the University of Reading, he has since progressed to operating on a different mode from most by embracing his roots and incorporating them in to his works.
“A blank page of paper and a pen is the greatest invention. It’s so exciting to be confronted by possibility.”
Nicky Wire
Basic Reality and It’s Fictive Levels of Possibilities is an intimate documentation and critique of his experience growing up in a society that worships the sacred paper-chase. It draws a comparison between societal expectations and his process of self-discovery.
Paper – one of our greatest inventions, serving as both archive and vehicle for humanity’s accumulated knowledges, finds itself at the forefront of his works as he ironically redefines our understanding of a paper pusher. The presentation of the works encourages the viewer to look beyond it’s two-dimensionality – the same way we should be approaching the polished exterior of our gleaming city-state. It recognizes a need to break the chains of conformity in order to transcend the cultivation of a muted hive-mind which threatens to stifle individual uniqueness and creative growth.
