Y2ARTS is proud to present Timeless, an upcoming solo exhibition by our best-selling artist Tan Suz Chiang.

The world grinds to a halt with Covid-19, and the global lockdown that ensued had forced many of us to be confined within our homes for several months or even longer periods of time. As we work, eat, play with people living under the same roof more than ever, the prolonged hours and days spent at home has once again highlight the importance of incorporating art into our daily lives.

It is perhaps unsurprising that we wish our walls could somehow look more inviting; we yearn to increase the comfort and aesthetics of our surroundings to make our everyday living more pleasant.

In light of our current situation, Y2ARTS is back with a new mission: to bring accessible art to the masses. Timeless is a manifestation of our belief that art is for all, regardless of taste.

Inspired by Salon exhibitions which were popularised in the 17th century to accommodate a greater number and variety of works, our gallery at 211 Henderson Road now features dramatic floor-to-ceiling hangs of over 50 pieces of Suz Chiang’s artworks.

A perfect mix of previous works and more recent ones, it is interesting to note the development of his very own expressionistic style. Over the years, Suz Chiang’s strokes have gained energy and momentum, revealing his strong inclination towards spontaneity. Yet, it is impossible to miss the thoughtful void in his works.

A modus operandi of his, the absence strategically placed suggests an even stronger presence within his compositions.

Never quite in pursuit of trends, Suz Chiang’s art reaches out to our tender emotions, that are so universally shared that they transcend time and other boundaries.

When nostalgic-looking Cubist planes, intersecting, interlocking each other from the Reminiscence era are exhibited alongside bold, textural strokes and drips of the Transformationseries, it gives rise to lively conversations across the gallery walls.

Even as activities in Singapore are gradually resuming, we are committed to make art viewing an authentic, trouble-free experience. With a fresh update of our website, we are sharing photos of our Timeless works online. They are aimed at providing all our art viewers with a better sense of the works themselves and their aura within real spaces.

The intrinsic value of appreciating art up close cannot be underestimated; all will find, within Suz Chiang’s wide-ranging oeuvre, art that speaks to them.
