Y2ARTS has a strong inclination towards identifying and developing new creative art forms and artists. The gallery, having successfully collaborated and promoted emerging artists to their worldwide collectors. In line with the Singapore Art Week, Y2ARTSis pleased to present “VOICES OF THE FUTURE”, the first group show to be held in 2019 and in Y2ARTS’ new gallery at Henderson, it includes artworks contextualised by a selection of new artworks from the gallery’s represented artists. Featuring painting, sculptures and limited-edition prints, “VOICES OF THE FUTURE”draws attention to the wide range of the gallery’s collection, which has taken much liberty to challenge our understanding of art, as well as to elevate the appreciation of Art in our local art scene.

It is an intriguing journey that an artist takes in the creation of his artwork. It starts with an idea rendered into a palpable expression; which, traditionally, takes the form of a painting, photography or sculpture. Nowadays the process of creation involves the artist challenging the boundaries of art, and experimenting with mediums as an alternative exploration with their narratives. The result can be an enhanced dialogue between the artwork being produced, the artist that created it, and the viewer. We see a story unfolds with individualised meaning being surfaced.

The artists, in this exhibition, originates from diverse backgrounds, age-groups and countries. Every one of them has a unique style in telling their stories and has to contend with the tension between perception and meaning, which also raises important questions about the literal narrative meanings sometimes expected from artists in today’s growing international market for narrative and concept-led art.

At this particular exhibition, you will be able to interact with some of the artists, who would be present. They will be able to share their innermost ideas and thoughts about their concepts. During the opening, many of their collectors will also be present, and it is also a great opportunity to network and exchange art collecting-experiences; which has often resulted with many friendships of common interest.

Y2ARTS pride herself of developing many emerging artists, one such artist is Zi Peng who have gone on to be an established artist of strong reputation.  Besides Japan and China, Singapore has recently developed much prominence in the art world. Not only taking into account the established artists, many emerging local and young artists have also started to gain global recognition. Take this opportunity to discover the next wave of emerging artists in Singapore and South-East Asia from this show, and play an integral part in their rise to prominence in the global art arena.

While Jun Ogata (Japan) and Han A Ram (South Korea) explore ‘peacefulness’ as a paradigm within their minimalistic works; Zi Peng (China) interrogate surrealism by warping our perception of material and reality; Suz Chiang (Malaysia) mixed media works have welcomed rich interpretation;Leslie (Singapore) pushes against the need to take an approach that respond to traditional style of painting; conceptual art by Outsider (Singapore) tickles our funny bone with an art-form to challenge our mundane need for conformity, especially in art.

“VOICES OF THE FUTURE” presents a diverse view and challenges our perception of art; and each artist plays an integral part by lending a voice for the future of art. Whether you are a season collector or a novice, Y2ARTS believe that this exhibition will definitely give you something to talk about during the Singapore Art Week.
